SPC’s Music Industry/Recording Arts Program presents The Wrecking Crew: an Evening with Filmmaker Denny Tedesco.
What
the Funk Brothers did for Motown …The Wrecking Crew did, only bigger, for the
West Coast Sound. Six years in a row in the 1960’s and early 1970’s, the Grammy
for “Record of the Year” went to Wrecking Crew recordings. And now, THE WRECKING CREW tells the story in
pictures and that oh, so glorious sound. The favorite songs of a generation are
all here, presented by the people who made them for you. THE WRECKING CREW is a documentary film produced and directed by
Denny Tedesco, son of legendary late Wrecking Crew guitarist Tommy Tedesco. The
film tells the story of the unsung musicians that provided the backbeat, the
bottom and the swinging melody that drove many of the number one hits of the
1960’s. It didn’t matter if it was Nat “King” Cole, Frank Sinatra, Nancy
Sinatra, The Monkees, The Byrds or The Beach Boys, these dedicated musicians
brought the flair and musicianship that made the American “west coast sound” a
dominant cultural force around the world. The film is a fun and moving tribute
from Denny to his father and to the music, the times and to the secret
star-making machine known only as “The Wrecking Crew”. On Friday April 24th

The Music Industry/Recording Arts (MIRA) program helps
students develop “real world” skills that artists need to thrive in a diverse
and competitive music industry. The program offers a well-rounded,
technology-based educational experience to student musicians, composers, producers,
DJs, live-sound reinforcement enthusiasts, broadcast audio engineers, and
post-production technologists. The program emphasizes creative processes,
technical training, business practices and entrepreneurial skills in a

It is a fantastic film! Producer/Director Denny Tedesco recently announced that sales of 'The Wrecking Crew' documentary on DVD, Blu-Ray, and the book 'Sound Explosion!: Inside L.A.’s Studio Factory with the Wrecking Crew' through the film’s online store (http://www.wreckingcrewfilm.com/) will support the Music Industry/Recording Arts program (MIRA) scholarship fund at St. Petersburg College. The fund will be named after Denny’s father, Tommy Tedesco.
Last month, the screening and after party of The Wrecking Crew at the Sundial Muvico in downtown St. Petersburg raised more than $1,000 for the scholarship. Now documentary maker Denny Tedesco is providing another opportunity to support Tampa Bay’s future musicians and recording engineers. Using the charity donation code ‘MIRA’ during checkout will donate $3.00 for a DVD, $5.00 for a Blu-Ray, and $5.00 for 'Sound Explosion!: Inside L.A.’s Studio Factory with The Wrecking Crew.'
'The Wrekcing Crew' documents the work of the session musicians that played from the 1950s to the late 60s for groups like The Beach Boys, the Mamas and the Poppas and the Byrds. The DVD and Blu-Ray discs include interviews he conducted over the last twenty years with some of the biggest names in music that did not make the final cut of the film. Sound Explosion features rare studio photos, and the story behind the music.
'Sound Explosion' is available now, and 'The Wrecking Crew' on Blu-Ray and DVD is available for pre-order. The DVD and Blu-Ray will be released on June 16th.
